In many ways, records like this could even be seen as propaganda to the cause. Feel your flesh turn stone cold There's so much air between the instruments. Dystopia doesn't focus on blast beats like many grindcore bands do. The reason Dystopia works so well is that every element of their sound is interesting. This rough sound piqued my interest as to what metal had to offer. They kill! See the world through sunken eyes Getting high just to get sick again The samples used on this album are (for the most part) fantastic. Huxley draws dystopia through emotional and political events. The novel explores the dark side of an apparently successful world, where everyone looks satisfied and contented with excessive pleasures of technology, which they achieve by sacrificing their personal freedoms. It seems that bands feel obliged to have at least 40 minutes worth of material on their full lengths, even if that means including filler. Usually the main themes of dystopian works are rebellion, oppression, revolutions, wars, overpopulation, and disasters. The page for “My Meds Aren't Working” particularly stands out.
I enjoy every song this band spews forth, but sadly they will spew no more. They were hard working and they gave all they had, their sweat was blood coming straight from their hearts.
The highlight, surely, are the vocals. This is one of my favorite records for a reason. However, the bass is still put to good use; it does not resign to constantly following the guitar haphazardly. Perhaps swearing isn’t strong enough to convey the essential and extrusive hateful values that pull the strings at the root of the instrumentation. Fans of Dystopia will find themselves right at home with this release. This album is basically the reason why I got into Dystopia. The atmospheric introduction to “My Meds Aren't Working”, which completely lack samples, is also very effective at building up tension, which this time is released in the form of a more mid-paced (yet still hard-hitting) riff. Dystopia's lyrics often dealt with human emotions and social or political issues such as environmentalism, racial equality, substance abuse, and animal rights. “Another friend found dead in the street The band is able to channel that negative energy into something truly creative.
On the other hand, Utopia is a perfect world – exactly opposite of dystopia. I will submit to the computer god I suppose a lot of the emotion I feel toward this record is out of respect for it. For one, graffiti isn't something one would usually relate to crust punk. Eventually a bass line joins in, which, after some time, is joined by very slow and simple riffing which gradually grows louder and louder. While bleak imagery has always been a staple of crust punk, Dystopia's packaging is more than that. When I first heard Dystopia (I was 14 at the time) I was really into punk, especially crust punk. Wether or not you agree with Dystopia's politics and worldview, which is by no means subtle or moderate, it is impossible to deny that the band wholeheartedly believe in what they are singing. Aldous Huxley, in his most challenging novel, brave new world, depicts a futuristic society where individual sacrifices for the cause of state, science controls and subjugates all types of history, and the arts are outlawed. I just want to continue raging! Positively, despite the uncomfortable feeling I get through the brooding anger beneath the surface in even the samples, the hostility this record projects on its audience is strangely intoxicating and pumps the adrenaline around my body, making me yearn for more. My copy has 'CHAPTER 35' as catalog# and Throne Records-logo on the backside of cover.
In short, this is Dystopia as they always are: Heavy, Crusty, and Fast. Upon first listen they were a bit more harsh than I was used to, but I quickly became acclimatized to their abrasive sound. As I became more and more obsessed with the band, I learned that the looming release of the final record was to be soon. There's nothing nice about these songs. If you've never listened to Dystopia, I'd probably recommend you listen to this album first. The fact that it comes after a fast grindcore section makes the sludge riffing all the more crushing. This only features seven songs, one of which being a brief instrumental. Some copies have an untitled bonus track, which is made up almost exclusively of samples, but for some time features subtle sludgy riffs and almost tribal drumming. But I Keep waking up alive The slow build up that makes up the first three minutes of the song is one of the best releases of tension in metal since, well, ever. Inner party members live a life of luxury, while outer members live in dirty apartments. Brave New World (1932), by Aldous Huxley. I don't know how to describe the vocals but they are so expressive and captivating that when married with the crusty and deep sounding drums and nasty yet memorable and catchy riffery, I just lose it. This dual vocal trade-off is something to marvel. A good start for a new Dystopia fan, but The Aftermath... or Human=Garbage far outweigh this album and would serve as a better introduction. After my rant about how cool Dystopia is, I'd like to say that the sludge fans out there might not get into this band. Wow, this is unbelievable! Lyrically, Dystopia has not changed over the years. The bass is best put to use in the more atmospheric sections. ... A Review of Every Album by The Police. They are deeply political, very interesting and highly critical of society. Dystopia's use of samples has always been very effective. With no intention of turning back In fact, buy two copies. Not only is it the bands most well recorded album, this release really shows the bands progression and musical growth from their debut in the early 90's. We notice throughout the novel that Panem’s Capitol makes use of intimidation and violence to control its people living in the Districts. The leading character, Winston Smith, falls in a trap where Big Brother, a leader of the party always watches him and other low-grade members of that society. And endless downward spiral of misery and pain is what remains The riffs sound heavy and gross (in a good way), the drums sound angry, and the vocals are raw and full of anger.
The bass was a lot more powerful in the Human = Garbage releases. Dystopia are a difficult band to pigeonhole. I wouldn't be expecting anything really technical to come from Dystopia, therefore I don't get disappointed. They are one of those bands that wholly posses their own sound. Dystopia is a band that always put a tremendous amount of effort into their packaging. Their logo points towards neither crust punk or sludge metal. The vocals exist in two forms, both similar in style and prowess. Their rhythm section is no exception to this rule.
There's little sludge sound to Dystopia, rather more epic crust and grindcore. The main problem with it is the lady who starts the samples off by saying “I have to put a lot of effort into keeping sane”. Generally, there is no government, or if there is, it is an oppressive and controlling government. An endless downward spiral of misery and pain is what remains Dystopia is the title of Midnight Juggernauts debut album. Save me from my human self Similar to their back catalog, the music is in the same style. “See the world through sunken eyes This full-length, the only full-length to have been released by the band has hit the public with a message of anger and hate. On Dystopia's past releases, both conventional and unorthodox songwriting was applied in fairly equal proportions. Beyond its relatively short length, a whole track is thrown away just for a harrowing, but ultimately replaceable sample. My life would be incomplete without it! There are missiles on both sides of this scene.
